The 3d product rendering questions we get.
Real cost, timeline and process questions from brand teams shortlisting SMAPIT for 3d product rendering. Answered with the numbers and workflow we actually deliver against.
- 01
How much does one 3D product render cost?
Hero product renders typically run $60 to $250 per image once the 3D master exists, and $200 to $800 to build the master itself. For a 50-SKU catalogue, a traditional shoot averages $500 to $2,000 per image plus 3 to 4 weeks of studio time. CGI compresses per-image cost the moment the model is built, because every new colourway, background or crop is a re-render, not a re-shoot. The payback point sits around 20 SKUs or the first variant refresh.
- 02
How fast can you turn around a hero render?
A single hero render ships in 5 to 8 working days from brief. That covers modeling from CAD or reference, lighting and camera setup, one render pass and two rounds of revisions. A full catalogue of 20 to 50 SKUs on the same 3D master runs 2 to 3 weeks. Lifestyle scenes with dressed environments add 3 to 5 days per hero shot.
- 03
Can 3D renders really replace a photo shoot for ecommerce?
For hard-surface products like electronics, appliances, packaging, cosmetics containers and footwear, yes. CGI is indistinguishable from a shoot at hero-image resolution. Where a shoot still wins is on translucent human skin, some silks, live liquid pours and behind-the-scenes footage. Everything else on a listing set (silo, lifestyle, feature call-outs) works better in CGI because a colour refresh or variant renders from the same file for a fraction of a re-shoot.
- 04
What do you need from us to render a product (CAD, samples, references)?
CAD, spec sheets or physical sample references. Any one of those is enough to start. STEP, IGES or OBJ from a mechanical designer gives us the fastest first render. Product photos with a scale reference work when CAD is not available. A physical sample plus front, side and top photos is the fallback and adds 2 to 3 days on the front to build the model. Pantone or brand colour codes go into the material setup so the render matches your brand system, not a monitor's guess.
- 05
Do you handle silo, lifestyle and Amazon A+ in one workflow?
Yes. Silo, lifestyle and Amazon A+ modules all render off the same 3D master, in the same lighting rig, so a range stays visually consistent across marketplaces. A typical delivery pack covers 5 to 7 silo shots, 3 to 5 lifestyle scenes and 5 to 7 A+ infographic frames. The 3D master is versioned per SKU, so a new colourway or variant re-exports in hours, not days. TikTok Shop vertical cuts and Shopify 3D viewer files come out of the same source when scoped in.

Questions, answered.
The things brands ask before the first brief. Anything else, just email us.
Yes. Colour work happens at the material stage using Pantone or brand-guideline codes, and every render is validated against a colour reference (Pantone chip, painted sample or brand style guide) before delivery.
